how do you rename a chunk?

When setting up our database, we used the raw device names as the names for the various chunks (and their mirrors) that we added. (i.e. /dev/rdsk/c0t3d0s4 [solaris 2.6]). My question: Short of unloading the database and reloading it, is there anyway to rename the chunks? i.e. ln -s /dev/rdsk/c0t3d0s4 /dev/rdsk/chunk0 restart server pointing to /dev/rdsk/[chunk|mirror]* and not the literal devices Server Version: Informix Dynamic Server Version 7.30.UC5 Thanks! Hi , I am afraid you cannot do that short of , as you suggested, unloading the data and then creating symbolic links and recreating the instance. Officially ;-) there is no way to rename a chunk beyond dropping it
and readding it using a link. That of course means unloading and
reloading the data stored there. Unofficially it can be done it's
just not worth the effort.
BTW DO NOT put the links in /dev because some overzealous sysadmin
will come along and say: "Hey who put these links here? Well, we're
not using them to mount any filesystems, I'll just clean up a bit...".
Put the links in a directory under the user informix login, say
~informix/disks, and use that path in onspaces/onmonitor:
onspaces -c -d dbs2 -p /home/informix/disks/chunk2 -o 0 -s 2096640 \\
-m /home/informix/disks/mirror2 0
MUCH safer!
