Most people (especially financial/CEO types, sometimes even IT managers or directors) don't do technical stuff. They see zillions of Oracle ads, all saying "Oracle is the best", they don't see anything else and they put two and two together. It might not be right, but it surely is reasonable. I mean, have you been to CNN.com lately? CNN/Oracle? Wow - if it's good enough for CNN, it must be good enough for me. And so on and so on... Have you ever had this conersation? Them: "So, what do you do for a living?" You: "I'm an Informix developer" Them: "What's Informix?" You: "You know Oracle?" Them: "Yes" You: "Informix is like that, only better" Technical dominance is pointless without a decent marketing solution. I mean how come NT is doing so well? It's surely not on the strength of the underlying solution. > "Informix leads the object-relational pack by about four years." > > - former Oracle CTO I'm sure I've seen this elsewhere today...
