I must agree. It's extremely rare in any substantial organisation that the management will buy what the people at the coal face want. "Strategic decisions" are taken on the golf course and in the fancy restaurants. They go like this: "so what's going on with your new database selection?" "my tech guys are telling me to go with _____ for our xyz project. We're stuck with ___ until we can migrate off of it to ___ or maybe ___." Most managers aren't technical, so the smart ones talk to the techs. If yours aren't talking to the techs, maybe they're just not talking to YOU, but most managers and execs get the tech buzz from somewhere to help them make a decision. Most of the owners of companies I work with also talk to their buddies at the peer level. They don't just talk to their own people. Ads aimed at executives work, there's no doubt, but the exec doesn't go by fluff ads when their money is on the line. But don't take my word for it, look at the competition and how they advertise. > Dirk Moolman said: > >>-----Original Message----- >>From: owner-informix-list@iiug.org [mailto:owner-informix-list@iiug.org] >>On Behalf Of Data Goob >>Sent: 01 June 2005 02:07 AM >>To: informix-list@iiug.org >>Subject: Re: IDS Next Version - features wanted. >> >> >> >>>Paul, >>> >>>Good points you make, but I'm probably Pavlovian about it, basing >>>my comments on the past, where there's been typically only one ad, >>>with one good shot, and one bullet in the gun. >>> >>>This means that we/they/you/us won't get the luxury to waste precious >>>ad-space on fluff and high-level bullshit.
