oledbtypes
Posted in 2007
Linking MS SQL Server to Informix 9.4 via the Informix OLE DB provider (Informix Connect 2.90.TC5), queries on MONEY columns failed with a mismatch: the column was reported as OLE type 6 (money) at compile time but 131 (decimal) at runtime. Suggested workarounds were casting the column to float in the SELECT, or editing coledb.sql/sysmaster's oledbtypes so MONEY maps to 131 (which worked for the poster). IBM confirmed it as provider defect idsdb00103021, fixed in a support-only patch and in the upcoming CSDK 3.00.TC1; the poster was arranging the patch via his vendor.

Here's an interesting one: Informix 9.4.HC5 HPUX 11iv1 We're attempting to get an sql server instance to connect to our informix engine in a nice way. After a bit of experimentation and a lot trial and error we were able to run queries between the two. Unfortunately, money columns are giving us a bit of a problem. We get an error message stating that the column was reported as ole type 6 (money) at compile time and as type 131(decimal) at runtime when querying a table with a money column. Any ideas? We're using informix connect version 2.90.tc5 on the sql server and ran the coledb.sql which came with it on informix.
Informix money, decimal, date, and datetime columns are probably opaque to MS
SQL Server. You can avoid using them in your DBs or you can cast the MONEY
column to type float in the select statement's projection clause:
SELECT ..., Money_Column :: float, ...

Ok, as a test I've modified the script coledb.sql script so that it
returns money as type 131. This involved changing a value which gets
inserted into oledbtypes in sysmaster so that it says money is type 131
rather than type 6. We don't have anything else that is using oledb to
connect to our informix engine and it does seem to get rid of our error
from the sql server. I don't necessarily like doing things this way
but, modifing the table structure in informix is out of the question.
Is this a safe solution?

This problem has been addressed in Informix OLEDB Provider, ask your support to get the fix for defect idsdb00103021 Thanks -Shesh "CHRIS SALCH" <chrissalch@letu.edu> Sent by: ids-bounces@iiug.org 19/01/2007 02:20 Please respond to ids@iiug.org To ids@iiug.org cc Subject oledbtypes [8247] Here's an interesting one: Informix 9.4.HC5 HPUX 11iv1 We're attempting to get an sql server instance to connect to our informix engine in a nice way. I'll give this one a shot. The nasty part about this is that we don't have a direct contract with IBM for support on Informix. It's a mess, all of that is handled by the vendor who provided us with the system using the Informix engine. I'm pursing what it will take for them to get us the patch right now. Is there anywhere a patch like that would be publicly available? (probably a rather dumb question.) Patch is not publically available. As far as I know patch for this defect fix has been delivered to customer (who faced this issue) and if you have (or your vendor has) Support contract, you should be able to get that patch. Otherwise you have to wait for CSDK 3.00.TC1 release (which has fix for this defect) which is *scheduled* to release towards end of Q1. You can keep checking the below link for the availability of CSDK 3.00.TC1 or shoot an email to this group. http://www-306.ibm.com/software/data/informix/tools/csdk/ Thanks -Shesh "Chris Salch" <chrissalch@letu.edu> Sent by: ids-bounces@iiug.org 19/01/2007 22:16 Please respond to ids@iiug.org To ids@iiug.org cc Subject Re: oledbtypes [8264] I'll give this one a shot. Thanks for the info. Our vendor has put me in touch with IBM. If all goes well, I should be getting the patch here shortly. Chris S.
