Decrease LRU_MAX_DIRTY and LRU_MIN_DIRTY to 2 and 1, respectively. If that helps, but not enough, try adding more LRUS and possibly more CLEANERS. Your application might also be doing something which causes many buffer updates (like a batch load), which might be addressed by implementing the functionality in a different way. Finally, on some ports/versions, there are bugs which might cause long checkpoints. If you're on 7.31, upgrade to 7.31.UC5.
