The original request was In article <1991Dec13.021444.27191@sserve.cc.adfa.oz.au> : >Our Informix database is running on a Pyramid 9810 with Ethernet interface. >We wish to access it through from a Visual Basic application running under >Windows3.0 on a PC with Ethernet access. As with Dave, we were previously >using the Wingz/Datalink solution but Visual Basic looks like a better front >end environment for developing and running the application (the application is >more graphics oriented then spreadsheet). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From s900387@minyos.xx.rmit.OZ.AU Mon Dec 16 00:19:40 1991 From: s900387@minyos.xx.rmit.OZ.AU (Craig Macbride) Are you actually developing the PC application yourself as it sounds? If so, why bother using Visual Basic or any other DOS-only system? Why not just write your application to run on the Pyramid and run X under Windows3? (There are several packages around which can do this.) Seems to me that you would save a whole heap of trouble this way. Also, it would mean that you could run it on any X-terminal, not just PCs. [ Of course, if your application at the PC end had to do heaps of CPU-intensive stuff that you don't want the Pyramid to have to do, or if there is some part of the PC end that is 3rd party and not able to be run on the Pyramid, then my suggestion won't be viable.] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From balr!segel@uunet.uu.net Tue Dec 17 11:40:16 1991 From: segel@balr.balr.com (Michael Segel) Wingz is more than just a spread sheet app. Use the learn mode, and change your front end. It does have a lot of potential. Your only other solution is to do something with I-Star, and esql/c to your front end. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From chris@visionware.co.uk Thu Dec 19 02:10:23 1991 We have a product called SQL-Retriever (formerly SQL-Connect) which will allow you to query/update/etc an Informix database on a Unix box from your PC running Windows 3. Email vware@visionware.co.uk for more info, or fax/phone our number and ask for Sales. Or you can (apparently) call, Computer Additions, Chatswood, NSW. Tel +61 2 415 0550. Contact Mr. Rob Hack. If you like the product, please let others know :-) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We have not yet acted on the above information, but when we do I might post something since there seems to be some interest. Thanks for your help, merry xmas and happy new year to all. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Jeff Howard, Dept. of Computer Science, Programmer.
