HDR not working
Posted in 2012
A newbie setting up HDR between two IDS 11.70 Linux servers found the secondary stuck in "Fast Recovery (Sec)" with both logs reporting "DR: Cannot connect to primary/secondary server". Respondents checked the port (9088 was listening) and pointed at missing trusted connections. Advice: set trusts via /etc/hosts.equiv or ~informix/.rhosts, or better a $INFORMIXDIR/etc file named in REMOTE_SERVER_CFG (format "hostname login"), test with dbaccess sysmaster against the remote instance and read the -956 "not trusted" message in online.log to learn which hostname to list. Art Kagel also noted the secondary stays in Fast Recovery until it syncs with the primary. The poster agreed trusts were the issue but no confirmation of a fix is recorded.

Hi,
can you check if IP port is up on both sides (netstat -an | grep 9088) and
if servers trust each other (.rhosts or hosts.equiv, check via dbaccess to
connect without password from sec to prim).

Did you check the trusts between both environments?
You can establish them in /etc/hosts.equiv or ~informix/.rhosts, or better
yet, by creating a similar file in $INFORMIXDIR/etc (let's call it
hosts_equiv and specify it in $ONCONFIG (REMOTE_SERVER_CFG)
REMOTE_SERVER_CFG hosts_equiv
On this file on dm_runix you should put:
dm_backix informix
and on dm_backix you should put:
dm_runix informix
If you already established the trust relations it would be interesting to
see the primary online.log after running "onmode -d secondary ..." on the
secondary instance.
At first glance I did not spot any thing wrong in your setup, but I may
have missed something...

What do the sqlhosts files look like?
Can you use dbaccess on dm_backix to query data in the ol_dm_runix server?

Thanks for input We have port 9088 listening on both servers and also establishing when requested by other server. Out problem looks like trusted connections. Working on problem will give feedback Rgds Derrick Muller
Valuable input thanks.
Looks like our first problem is establishing trusted connections.
Setup hosts.equiv in $INFORMIXDIR/etc.
We assume format is:
hostname loginname
Still cannot connect using dbaccess without entering username and password.
Not sure how it should work?
Should you be able to connect without entering username/password?
We also tried adding ~/.rhosts but no luck. Will be doing some more research
tonight.
Is there anything else to be done to get trusted connections to work?
On another issue after doing a ontape -p on the secondary server the instance
fires up in Fast Recovery mode.
After doing a onmode -d secondary .... the secondary server remains in Fast
Recovery (Sec) mode, is this correct or should it automatically move to
On-Line (Sec) mode?
Thanks for help
Thanks for input Looks like trusted connections are the problem. Working on solution. Rgds Derrick Muller
On your last question, the secondary won't move to secondary mode until it
syncs with the primary.

Be carefull...
$INFORMIX/etc/hosts.equiv is not the default place for Informix to validate
trusts.
For replication only connections (when you use "s=6" option in
$INFORMIXSQLHOSTS) it will look there.
But for normal ports (which can also be used for replication) be default it
will use /etc/hosts.equiv and ~/.rhosts
In my first email I recommended $INFORMIXDIR/etc/hosts_equiv (note the
underscore) to avoid conflicts with the other files. But in this case you
must configure the REMOTE_SERVER_CFG parameter in
$INFORMIXDIR/etc/$ONCONFIG. By default if you just specify the file name it
will be looked in $INFORMIXDIR/etc
And yes, the format is "hostname login"
I suggest you do this:
1- setup the file and eventually the parameter on primary server
2- Goto secondary server and setup the normal Informix environment. Then
change the INFORMIXSERVER to the primary informix intance. Then run
dbaccess sysmaster. If it works replicate the idea on secondary server. If
you receive error -951 go to primary server and look at the error message
in online.log. You may find something like:
* error -956: informix@something[something_else] is not trusted....*
If this is the case (something != something_else) and you're using
11.50.xC9 or 11.70.xC4 (sorry, I know you told us, but not visible at this
moment :) ) then you need to put:
something informix
something_else informix
on the file where you specify the trusts. Or you may try to use the IP
addresses.
Regards.
