Hi, I'm using 7.24UC5 on AIX. Does anyone know what the steps/criteria need to create a DBSPACETEMP besides : 1. create logical volume with the tempchunk name and chmod 660 and informix.informix 2. create dbspace with T=yes and create the chunks concerned. 3. modify the onconfig file and include the dbspace name concerned. regards.

Besides being careful to use the RAW device, it is better, if you have multiple chunks to use for temp dbspaces, to create at least three separate dbspaces rather than one larger one, in general to optimize sorting speed. In 7.2x you have to balance this with the caviat that during an archive the temp tables created to hold the physical log records of pages modified during the archive can fill one of these while the others still have room which would cause the archive to abort (7.3x solved this problem) so if you cannot make the multiple temp dbspaces large enough to avoid the archive problem then settle for one temp dbspace until you upgrade to 7.3x or 9.2x. -- Art S.
