I'm running Nutscrape 4.7 and java 1.2, and my browser still dies on me daily. All sizzle, no steak. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
Uhmmm. Lets see. Doing applets or front end Java, you have to stick to 1.1.8 unless you have the correct plug in. Based on experience, its not the Java but the kludge you have to go through to make things work. (If you are going to do Java 1.2 or later, you need to do Java front end to Java backend and make sure they are the same versions. There are so many things that can make your Java experience flakey. ;-) Oh and anyone who recommends Websphere should be shot. No Java 2 support until version 3.5 which won't be out till sometime mid year. But all of this is way off topic. The problem with SPL is that its not standard. What works for Informix won't work for Sybase or Oracle. This leaves C, C++ or Java. C is by far the quickest and fastest . C++ has a tad more overhead but has its advantages too. Java is slower, but as stored procedural languages, its the most portable. So its a question of what is your goal? Portability, Java beats C and C++. For speed, C then C++. Based on your comments, C will be the best bet. Can't get any faster. -Mikey Obnoxio The Clown wrote: > From: "Bashar Chalabi" <bashar@ctl.com> > > > >Let's face it, SPL is a dog for any serious work. We need to move some SPs > >to C or Java.
