Re: Storing image as BLOB or as file in filesystem?

"Noel Griffin" <noel@griffinsoft.com> offerred: +It is much more efficient to store image data in BLOB columns, that are +stored in a BLOBSPACE (not a DBSPACE). Reading the blob data is more efficient when stored in blobspaces. But you may require more space, since blobspace blobs do not share blobpages with other blobs, even if most of the blobpage contains no data. When the blob data is transferred to your application, it is done 1K at a time, no matter how large the blob (fet_buf_size has no impact on blob transfers). Also consider all the special circumstances with updating blobspace blobs (old blobpages are not replaced; rather new ones are allocated and the old ones stay around until the logical log containing the changing transaction has been backed up and freed), and backups (blobspaces are locked in read-only mode until their contents have been written to the backup). Also, blobspace blobs cannot be replicated. Not intended as discouragement - just be aware of ALL the facts first.
