IDS actually has two very different replication systems supported: HDR and EDR (formerly CDR). Hierarchical Data Replication is between only two servers which must be the same version and hardware and is full system Master/slave. There is one master server which is updatable and a slave which is read only until the master crashes. Enterprise Data Replication is much more forgiving and permits multiple master and multiple replicants full or partial databases may be replicated and the replication can be syncronous or asyncronous.
