Hello There, The task at hand at my end, is a migration of a database to the next version. In the process of this migration, certain tables will be dropped, and certain tables will get new columns etc. While creating the tables in the new database I need to specify extent sizes for the tables based on the number of records in the old database tables. Once these tables are created the data for them has to be drawn out of the old database tables (eliminating orphan records ). Can anyone enlighten me as to how I should go about doing this migration. (I am an newbee with Informix, however I have decent experience with Databases using Oracle). Thanks! sherwin

Coming from Oracle you may not realize that you can upgrade safely in place without migrating your data manually. You can also alter the existing tables, including the NEXT EXTENT sizes and adding new columns, in place. If you first start violations on the tables, and assuming you have primary/foreign keys set up, the server will automatically filter out any orphaned records. Don't plan on doing things the hard way, ala Oracle, if you do not have to. Art S. Kagel PS - Welcome to Informix Community, you will come to love it.
