In IDS before 7.3 you should write a stored procedure. In 7.3x
and 9.2 there is a function called NVL that does exactly what
you want. But in some early versions of 7.3x the NVL function
had a bug causing a lot of virtual shared memory to be used and
you'll have to use the CASE construction to replace NVL in these
versions.
But - be aware that these extensions will not work in the
informix product called I-SQL (a frontend for simple form/reports
generation and query executions). At least in 7.2 versions (if there
are any, I didn't work with I-SQL for a while). It will definitely
work in dbaccess and in other client tools (except from 4GL, unless
prepared).

Octav
