listener-thread: err
Posted in 1999
On HP-UX 10.20 with IDS 7.31.UC2, the server refused to start, logging "listener-thread: err = -27006 ... Network driver cannot establish listen endpoint. System error = 226." After others asked for onconfig, sqlhosts and /etc/services (one suggestion was a service-name clash between instances), the poster found the real cause: leftover shared-memory/IPC control files in /INFORMIXTMP. Deleting the <servername>.str and <servername>.exp files let the server start. This matched known bug 74414 — with onipcstr configured, an abnormal engine shutdown leaves the .str file behind and the engine assumes the port is in use; the workaround is to clear /INFORMIXTMP before starting.

Informix Dynamic Server Version 7.31.UC2
When i try to start the server I get:
15:20:13 listener-thread: err = -27006: oserr = 226: errstr = : Networkdriver cannot establish listen endpoint.
System error = 226.
15:20:13 Attempting to bring listener thread down.
15:20:13 Server stopped.
Does anybody have a suggestion what to try?

post your config file and your onsoctcp file (and maybe the applicable
portion of your /etc/services file), please. There might be a conflict in
those three...

we are checking those files, but there does not seem to be any conflicts,
thanks for taking an interest anyway.
If we can not get any further soon I will be shure to post those files anyway.
Thanks

problem resolved by removing two files from INFORMIXTEMP [service].exp and [service].str.
I noticed that you have multiple entries using the same service
(ionline_obi_prod) on the same instance and a separate instance using the
same service. I don't know if that is normal when doing DR, but I get an
error similar to yours if I try to have 1 instance trying to listen twice on
the same service.

(You can have several protocols on the same servicename) We're running two informix instances on that server so I was a little (to) anxious not to remove the wrong file(s), and we _did_ get errormessage 27006 -not 25572. Anyway... here's the bug: bugp 74414 Bug: 74414 ONLINE WON'T COME UP IF THE ENGINE WAS ABORTED ABNORMALY AND IPCSTR IS CONFIGURED. IT FAILS WITH ERROR 25572 AND SYSTEM ERROR 226 Description: If ipcstr is configure and the engine is aborted abnormaly, when trying to bring it online it returns the error 25572: Network driver cannot bind a name to the port. System error 226. It looks like we look into the /INFORMIXTMP and instead of trying to create the control file servername.str we check it's existence and assume the port is already in use. If the file is removed, the engine come up fine. Workaround: 4984 Remove any files under /INFORMIXTMP before try to bring the engine to online Thanks for all the help btw! Thomas
We are considering to alter this, but for the moment it works if we remembet to remove certain files from INFORMIXTEMP when we reinitialize. Thanks for taking an interest Best regards Svend E. Hansen. >
