4GL Latin Lookup
Posted in 1994
To all you lovers of Latin. This morning I spotted an announcement of a list of latin words with definitions, word endings, and usages being loaded onto an ftp site (ukanaix.cc.ukans.edu). As I spend a fair amount of time lurking on ansax-l, which is often rife with latin phrases, I thought such a list would be handy to me. So, I grabbed the files, created a database, loaded-parsed-&-inserted the files. I then wrote a small interface program to query on the latin words, english phrases, word endings, sundry grammatical tidbits and the like. Anyway, I thought I'd be generous and share it with any interested parties. Unfortunately, I don't have an available ftp site to load it onto. I suppose I could uuencode it and mail it but the compressed tar file is currently at 322765 bytes and I understand uuencoding expands it by 25%. So, if anyone is interested let me know. By the way, the code is rather simple so it should run on most any version. The compressed file contains the exported database, source code and a p-code version of the program. ----------- There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, ---------------- Scott Holmes <sholmes@netcom.com> Informix 4GL Applications ---------------- Than are dreamt of in your philosophy. ------------------------
