RE: Informix, Sun, RAID?

We have customers running SUN Disksuite, and others running Veritas. Beware on SUN disks .. leave the partition table at the front of the disk alone. We are configuring database servers using Informix Dynamic Server 7.31 on a Sun Sparc 3500 with solaris 2.6. We want to use RAID to handle the raw disk database space. Unfortunately we are having a bad experience with a third party SCSI RAID where the unix filesystem management works fine, but the Informix raw space gets corrupted. The RAID vendor doesn't seem to have any information about how their product works with Informix. I would like to hear from anyone who has successfully combined Informix, Solaris and RAID. Is the best solution to get the RAID from SUN, or has anyone had luck with 3rd party vendors? Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.
We are using EMC and DG Clariion. Both work very well. EMC is faster, and of course they have bought out Data General now, but Clariion is half the cost. No problems. We use RAID10 for Informix and the sysadmin group uses RAID5 for filesystems all work very well. Art S. I favor the hardware RAID over DiskSuite or Veritas (okay for managing filesystem growth, but too slow for RAID 5, 10). MTI has a hardware RAID solution which working fine for one of my customers running Oracle. Informix shouldn't care with what's going on at the disk level. It sees the volume (RAID 10 or whatever) as a single volume. The hardware RAID performs all of the striping and mirroring, which can put overhead on the OS if RAID is configured in software (DiskSuite or Veritas). Look at a hardware solution like having a dedicated processor for disk I/O. MoJo Risin -- In article <3819A86D.E8EA337@bloomberg.net>, kagel@bloomberg.net wrote: > We are using EMC and DG Clariion.
