Actually, the default format for INTEGER values is 11 characters (or so)
long and is equivalent to "----------&". Of course, unless you allow the
value to be signed by using a '-' in the format, the value is always
printed as a positive number. The format given isn't equivalent to the
SMALLINT format either; change the '#' characters into '-' and it is.
