Re: Improving NewEra programs Performance

The differance between using the AFCL and not is minimal in the issue of performance. The problem is that NewEra is a hog when it comes to instantiating objects. Here are some suggestions & benchmarks: 1) Dont use tabs. If each window takes 4 seconds to instantiate and you have 3 tabs, thats 12 seconds right there. Instead call a function when you want to get to additional info. you'll take the 4 second hit at the time of running the function but its alot less painful that taking all the hits at once. 2) For each object in the window, your looking at about 1/10 of a second to load. Minimize the info on each screen. On master details, for example, only show 6 rows instead of 15 if the additional rows arent really necessary. 3) Here's the "Let them eat cake" solution. Get a faster PC. The same screens that take 12 seconds on a 486/66 16M take 1.5 seconds on a P5-150 24M. In the NewEra users conferance, this was the number 1 issue we brought to Phil Whites attention. Did Informix hear us is the real question. Good luck!
