During the restore process, you will receive a prompt that asks if you have any logical logs to roll forward...simply answer no and your system should come up in quiescent mode. I don't understand what you mean by having to get an Informix engineer to 'patch' the rootdbs. Maybe you mean that you only had some of the logical logs to apply, but not all, or you are trying to do some type of timestamp restore..that's in 7.2.
