hi Guys, I am having problem in updating one of our tables through MSACCSS. Let us say that the table name is ACCOUNT and the schema is : accountnum serial not null, firmnum integer not null, accountname char(10) not null, . . . . .. ) Now when I go to update the accountname which is a char data type, I get the following error : ODBC --call failed [Informix][Informix ODBC Driver][Informix]A SERIAL column (accountnum) may not be updated (#232) This is driving us crazy. I am trying to updae char data type, and due to some reason it is updating the serial data type. This is not through any MSACCSS designed form. This is just adfter linking the table and trying to update. Any ideas ??? Thanks in advance. Niraj

Version numbers of both Informix and M$ Access would be nice.

Proper (entire) schema please! Constraints, indexes, keys etc.

How are you attempting the update? Details please.

Which ODBC Driver/version are you using?

Nothing concrete. I would verify that Access is not trying to update
the serial column accountnum. It probably is for whatever reason (hence
the error). You could try and capture the session using onstat -g ses
on the dbserver to see what the update statement is.

Hi Sinha. Sorry my poor English.(Because I am Japanese.) I have similar experience. Here is my environment. +---------------+-----------------------+-----------------------+ | | I-CONNECT 2.40.TC1/ | I-CONNECT 2.50.TC2/ | | | Informix ODBC 3.31 | Informix ODBC 3.32 | +---------------+-----------------------+-----------------------+ | MS Access 97 | OK | OK | +---------------+-----------------------+-----------------------+ | MS Access 2000| NG | NG | +---------------+-----------------------+-----------------------+ OS : NT 4.0(SP5) Please try MS Access 97. hi.
You must make sure you're not sending any values to the 'accountnum' field
in your update.
Serial-type field isn't allowed to be edited, and Access is 'assuming' a lot
of things when using
the GUI tools, and is known to produce some very strange SQL-code in the
end.
Use the 'onstat -g sql' to look at the actual code you're sending, to see if
access tries to update
that accountnum-field.
