ONPLOAD QUESTION
Posted in 2000
Hi,
For a data warehousing project we are loading data from mainframe to
Informix 9.x database. The entire ETL tool is custom written in Perl and
ESQL-C.
The data comes from the mainframe as an ASCII fixed length file which is then
loaded onto the informix database using dbload. The Perl script creates the
appropriate dbload command file and calls dbload to load the data to an
*unlogged* database.
We are contemplating moving to onpload (high performance loader). From the
manuals it looks like that onpload has a setup process which is GUI driven.
From iiug.org I downloaded a script which can create the onpload database
bypassing the GUI process. However its readme.txt file
>Installing and Using
>--------------------
>1. You should be logged in as "Informix"
>2. dbaccess onpload master.sql
>3. database that you want to load to must have logging
>4. run the "gop" shell script to use the interface
Point no 3 says that the target database where the data is to be loaded must be
logged. This conflicts with our objective of keeping the database unlogged. Does
that mean, we can not use high performance loader unless we change the database
to a logged one.
TIA.
Ravi.
