Informix Client-Server

Hi, We have an urgent issue here. We need to separate the application from the database server, i.e.., we want our application and Informix Database on different Unix machines and they will talk to each other in Client-Server fashion. Is it possible? How can it be done? What are the issues to be resolved? The application is written in 4GL and also uses I-SQL & RDS. Right now, the application and the server, both are on the same Unix box. Informix DS 7.3 UC8, 4GL, I-SQL, RDS 7.20 UD7 Sun Solaris 2.6 Thanks In Advance, Nick.
Nick, Yes, this is a very common setup. Informix is designed and built for this. I'll call server1 the server you currently have and server2 the server you will be introducing. You would leave your engine on server1 and move 4GL, SQL, RDS onto server2. You would need to install your 4GL, SQL, RDS software on server2. You would also need your /etc/hosts, /etc/services, and $INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts files on server2 to have entries defining server1 and the Informix engine on server1. You should be able to copy the the contents of the sqlhosts file you currenty have on server2 to server1. The two servers would also have to have a trust relationship so that the client process can login to the server.
