With the better ODBC drivers arround you will have less problems. MS Access still isn't a good tool for developing applications. It's fine for ad hoc queries and reporting though. For production leve programing Java with one of the better tools (Symantec Visual Cafe or IBM Visual Age for Java) arround that is the best you can get for a lot of purposes. If your applications are simple, the amount of data will remain small and the number of users will never be very many you can also use tools like Visual Basic or Delphi. Appart from Visual Basic you should however be aware that this kind of tools is geting significant competition from Java based tools and some of them may dissapear in a not too distant future.
