Informix Optimization
Posted in 1998
We are currently running Online 5.10 with a quad-processor (133Mhz) Intel box on UNIX. We plan on migrating to 7.x some time in the near future. I am concerned about performance as we were told Informix 5.x will not take advantage of more than one processor. Is this true? Our system idle time today was at 85%. My reaction is we need to: a) buy faster hardware; b) separate the database engine from the "main" UNIX box via networking. I suggested this and it was not received well. Any comments? Users complain (and I agree) that the system normally is running slowly. I included a copy of my TBMONITOR status report because I'm curious to see how well our machine is tuned. Any comments? Currently we have about 30% of our total user-base migrated so I expect these numbers to increase three-fold. Thanks!
