Indeed the data is blown because what you are doing is saving different tables at different times with different changes posted to it. If you want to do a correct backup of the informix database you need to put it in Quiescent or offline mode. When you do that you data is ok. Depending on the size of your database it might take a while. We run a backup every night at 1AM to 4AM and take informix down every night at that time. You can also do a level 0 backup of the database to disk which is very quick , and then save the level 0 backup file to tape.
