Re: Solaris threads on the client side

I believe you'll have to wait for the 7.20 release of ESQL/C, because that has support for threaded libraries. There's a new option, -thread, added to the esql script to specify linking with thread-safe libraries. What I don't know is which threading libraries, or even whether it matters which threading libraries. I also don't have a release date, but it may be 96Q1. Discuss it with Informix Sales staff, who should be able to find out for you. Yours, Jonathan Leffler (johnl@informix.com) #include <disclaimer.h> }From: Scott Dunbar <dunbar@interaccess.com> }Date: Wed, 13 Dec 1995 19:28:14 -0600 }X-Informix-List-Id: <news.19662> } }I am attempting to use Solaris (2.5) threads on an application that is }a client to an Informix dataserver. I first looked at ESQL/C but that }has a ton of global variables and I didn't bother. I then tried CLI, }but that also failed. The manual gives many warnings about having to }protect various parts of the code with mutex's so it wasn't suprising }that it SIGSEGV'd. } }I was wondering if this is something that anyone else has done with }any success. It seems that most of the Informix client code was written }in the 60's when global variables were all you had in COBOL and then }ported to C. (Ok, I'm a little frustrated with this problem). My app }simply wants to have multiple connections doing different things all }at the same time. This shouldn't be that difficult, but Informix tech }support (when they finally anwsered the phone) didn't think it could }be done.
