End chunk mirror on two serves doing er
Posted in 2015
The poster asked how to stop disk mirroring of chunks on two Informix servers that are linked by replication, and in what order. Replies explained that for HDR/RSS you simply drop the mirrors on the primary with onspaces and the secondary follows; mirroring is per dbspace, so all chunks of a dbspace must be unmirrored, and the underlying files/raw devices stay on disk and must be removed manually (note also the difference between disabling and removing a mirror chunk). Since he was using Enterprise Replication, the two instances are independent, so Art Kagel confirmed he must drop the mirror chunks separately on both servers.

Hello: Which one is the best way to end chunk mirroring on two database servers? Maybe, end chunk mirror for root space on slave server and them on master server? And end chunk mirror for other space as final stage. Thank you. --001a113ecbee87c9c5052616cb37
I assume you are talking about an HDR or RSS secondary and its primary? You just have to drop the mirrors on the primary. The secondary will follow along. Art Art S. Just drop (using onspaces for example) the mirror chunk on the primary,
the system will do the rest for you.
The actual file or raw device remains on disk of course. If you run
onstat -d after dropping the mirror, you will not see the mirror chunkdisplayed any longer. It is up to you to remove the actual file/raw
device (on both servers: primary and secondary.
Do not forget that mirroring is per dbspace and not per chunk. If you
want to remove a mirror chunk, you have to do it for all of the chunks
of a dbspace. You cannot have a mirrored chunk and a not mirrored chunk
within a single dbspace. However, you can have a mirrored dbspace (all
of its chunks) and a not mirrored dbspace (all of its chunks).
*Note*: there is a difference between diabling a mirror chunk and
removing a mirror chunk.
Diabling a mirror chunk is just changing a flag so that there is no
writing to it (interesting in certain situations if you want to do a
big load or a big UPDATE/DELETE) so your task is not penalized
performance-wise. When you change the flag (chunk status) again, the
system resynchronizes things for you online. You can have a DOWN chunk
(chunk exists but not active) and a ONLINE chunk in a single dbspace.
Removing a mirror chunk removes the chunk from the list of chunks that
the informix instance sees. If you want to put it back, you have to add
mirroring from scratch to that dbspace that contains one or more chunks.

This is If you are are using HDR of course.
If you are using ER, the 2 instances are different since you are only
replicating part of the database (some or part of some tables only).
