I have seen vendor-supplied scripts, which use the following
exit codes from "onstat". I do not know where they are documented.
integer inf_dwn1=255 # Informix mode is down
integer inf_dwn2=-1 # Informix mode is down (60_USAP2)
integer inf_init=0 # Informix mode is Initialization
integer inf_quie=1 # Informix mode is Quiescent
integer inf_fast=2 # Informix mode is Fast Recovery
integer inf_fast=3 # Informix mode is Archive backup
integer inf_fast=4 # Informix mode is Shutting down
integer inf_onli=5 # Informix mode is Online
integer inf_abor=6 # Informix mode is System Aborting

Subject: onstat
Hi all.
I was told by our DBA that onstat has different exit codes depending on
the engine's mode (or mood).
So, if I test $result (in C shell) or $? (Bourne / Korn shell), I should
get a numeric value.
My tests show 1=Quiescent, 5=On-Line.
Does anyone know what these values are ? And yes, I tried to RTFM.
Thanks in advance,
