new features about dynamic parameter added in 12.1
Posted in 2015
Someone asked for the list of ONCONFIG parameters that became dynamically changeable in 12.10 but weren't in 11.70, since the docs don't enumerate them. Suggestions: in 11.70 run "onmode -wm dummy=1" to make the engine print the list of tunable parameters (this no longer works in 12.10); in 12.10 use "onstat -g cfg tunable" (and "onstat -g cfg full" for details), as confirmed by IBM's John Miller. An alternative is querying sysmaster:syscfgtab with bitand on cf_flags (0x8000 = dynamic). The original poster then posted the resulting list of newly dynamic 12.10 parameters, so the question was resolved.

HI, I checked new feature of V 12.1 in the information center , and kown added some parameter that can be changed dynamicly, but information center don't list those parameters , could anyone provide those parameter list can be changed dynamicly in v 12.1? but can't changed dynamicly in V 11.7. thanks for your time.
Hello, my friend.
Just make an "onmode -wm AAA=A" and the engine should print an output with the
possible parameters.
Best regards.

There may be a better approach, but if not you can do something like:

this

Version 11.50 printed out the list if you specified an invalid parameter,
11.70 and 12.10 don't do that any more.

11.70.FC8 does (at least on Linux). See my previous email.
But I also have the feeling that behavior is not consistent across versions
and that some parameters that are shown are not really dynamix or
vice-versa (some dynamic parameters may not be shown)

Cool, anyway, the real point is onmode doesn't do that in v12. Always
forget about onstat -g cfg though, thanks.

Attention, this is not documented.
For Informix 12.10, another way you can get the list is to use the cf_flags
column on syscfgtab to determine which onconfig parameters are dynamic:
SELECT cf_name
FROM sysmaster:syscfgtab
WHERE bitand(cf_flags,'0x1') = 0 --removes Unsupported parameters
AND bitand(cf_flags,'0x1000') = 0 --removes Undocumented
parameters
AND bitand(cf_flags,'0x4000') = 0 --removes discontinued
parameters
AND bitval(cf_flags,'0x8000') = 1 --shows only dynamic parameters
ORDER BY 1;
I believe you can also use the 0x10000 to get if it's persistent only.
http://dba-snippets.blogspot.pt/2015/03/informix-configuration-parameter.html
This, however, does not work on previous version but for the version 11.70
has already mentioned you can use the:
[infx1170@tardis etc]$ onmode -wm dummy=1
Configuration Parameter to be changed is not valid or not supported with
this
option.
The following documented configuration parameters and environment variables
can be modified on the fly with onmode -w[mf]:

To show all onconfig parameters which are dynamically tunable run
onstat -g cfg tunable
To see a detailed list and description of all configuration parameters run
onstat -g cfg full
