Can I set a directory or file as logical log tape (backup) device?

I'd like to set up continuous logging of logical logs to a disk file. Any help or pointers appreciated. -darrel -- ========================================== Darrel Davis darreld@audiosonix.com AudioSonix, Inc darrel@davisware.net ==========================================

Better to use an ALARMPROGRAM to backup each log as it fills. If you
use
onbar, Informix delivered a script, log_full.sh, that does this using
onbar just but its path in the ALARMPROGRAM ONCONFIG parameter. If you
are using
ontape, get my package utils3_ak from the IIUG Software Repository which
contains a version of log_full.sh that uses ontape to do the same thing
and also
an executable (C) program (eventalarm.c) that is more sophisticated and
does
the same thing while also managing notifying you via email, pager, or
cell phone
of server problems. The package also comes with a cron script to be run
daily
that deletes log backup files from disk after seven days. If you are
sweeping the
logfiles to tape daily with your normal system archives this means you
will have
at least 6 copies of every log backup file on your nightly backups and
should
also have most on the weekly backup (you can change this to 8 days to be
sure).
