Virtually it happens together. The main part of the data row along with the locator information about the BLOB data are inserted together with the BYTE BLOB page(s) as part of the same insert operation. Physically, under the hood, likely the BLOB pages are created first as the locator structure in the data part of the row must contain the address of the first BLOB page. Why? What's the underlying question? Art S. Kagel ----- Original Message ----- From: Samuel Jakabowski <ids@iiug.org> To: ids@iiug.org At: 11/06 10:19:13 We have a table that contains a byte column. The column is in a different space from the table. The question is which gets inserted first the byte field or the data field? The database (7.31) is on a dedicated sun box and the apps along with the images are on nfs mounted systems. Every now and then one of the nfs mounts gets dropped in the middle of the process which in turn causes the image to be non-retrievable.
The original images are place on the nfs mounted systems. The apps pools the mounted nfs systems to see if any new images are received. When a new image is located the app inserts this into the online database and then archives the image to another nfs system.
