Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
Not a technical Informix problem at all — this is a netiquette thread on the IIUG list. Art Kagel asked (in capitals) that posters include the text of the message they are replying to; Jonathan Leffler agreed but added that over-quoting is equally bad, urged dropping signature/disclaimer blocks, and argued against top-posting (illustrating it with the classic reversed Q&A joke). Adam Tauno Williams agreed it is a problem on many lists. The rest is banter from "Obnoxio The Clown"; no rules were formally adopted, so no resolution is recorded.
Auto-generated by DrWatson from the posts below — may be imperfect; read the full thread.

The other thing which is annoying is excessive quoting of the previous
material - too much is as bad as too little. It is also a courtesy to drop
signature blocks, especially these days when many companies in Europe are
obliged to add quite extensive disclaimer blocks to the ends of messages.
I'd prefer to see less top-posting too - this one, I fear, is a lost cause,
though.
A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text.
Q: Why is it such a bad thing?
A: Top-posting.
Q: What is the most annoying thing on usenet and in e-mail?

+1 This recently seems a constant issue on almost every e-mail list I
am on; reading the messages has become to irritating to even bother
trying in some cases.
NOT funny, clown. ;-(
