Informix DSA with 1 processor
Posted in 1997
Hello Anna Paula, Yes, we have had a bad experience with upgrading from Informix 5.02 to 7.11. Our application is oltp 24 hours a day, and batch at times during the wee hours of the morning. The oltp portion degraded substantially during our peak 3 hour window in the afternoon. It was for all intents and purposes "offline" during this window. Our batch processes showed no ill effects. We had 2 66 mhz cpus running on an NCR 3555. We configured Informix to be a single cpu machine as per Informix guidelines. Later, we tried to configure it as 2 cpus, with no improvement. We found we were now heavily cpu bound. Only after increasing one of our machines to 4x90 and the other to 8x66 did our application begin to perform well. ( we actually have 2 3555's, each running half of the load of the oltp application: divided among our 240 stores. ) In our case, we did notice poor performance after an upgrade, but I would say in general that it depends on your application. Mike Ballentine P.S. I'm afraid to migrate to online dsa 7.13 because i've heard about poor performance of dsa with one processor. Does anybody have experience with this situation ? Sorry for my poor english.. Anna Paula
