Hi Tom.
Make sure /tmp/INFORMIXTMP, if exists.
cat /tmp/INFORMIXTMP/.infxdirs .
You can find where informix products installed.
Then
$ INFORMIXDIR=hoge
$ export INFORMIXDIR
$ PATH=$INFORMIXDIR/bin:$PATH
$ export PATH
$ dbaccess -V (or something else)
HTH.
