sometimes get 2 sqlturbo processes (?)
Posted in 1996
Hello. Im running a server program which talks to multiple phone switches and uses threads to start and stop the communication sessions between it and the switches. Im running under Solaris 5.3 and using 5.04.UC1 esqlc. Every so often a switch connection dies and needs to be restarted. a thread is created (nothing in the thread uses informix) and it spawns a new communications process (telnet) and conditions its i/o streams so that it can be read and written as a stream by the program. Now sometimes when this happens the switch is permanently down. In that case a dummy program runs as a placeholder which does nothing but pause(). This gives an admin the opportunity to fix the network/switch problem. They can then kill the program and the server reaps the status and retries the connection. The problem is that sometimes when the dummy program is exec'd another sqlturbo process also appears with the same parent processid. this just raises havoc with the program - the database just doesnt work right afterwards. Anyone seen this before? the sqldetach call is not available in this version, BTW. I dont understand why this happens just sometimes... TIA, tom.
