A couple of years back I worked on a stock control system and wrote a ware- housing system for the Defence Dept (Navy). The warehouseing system was written in 1 month based on their stated requirements. However they were not in a position to use the software for another year. The key in this case was to avoid aiming at a moving target by defining requirements correctly once. If you wish the system to grow with the user, this approach does not work, as obviously their involvement is much higher. The success of the system ultimately depends on the user, and this point is often overlooked. All reports indicated the system was successful. However I was long gone by the time they started using the software. I hope your boys upstairs understand this.
