Maybe your boss was using tbstat -l because that's how you see if the logs are full? If you upgrade to IDS.7.3x or IDS.2000, you get access to the sysmaster database which allows you to query that sort of thing via SQL. There is a (very limited) equivalent for later versions of 5, I don't know if it allows monitoring of the logs. >Obnoxio The Clown <obnoxio@hotmail.com> wrote in message >news:8i7m2l$efh$1@news.xmission.com... > > > > From: "Brett Schubert" <BSchubert@bigpond.com> > > > > > >The boss currently uses a script with: > > > > > >"tbstat -l" > > > > > >to determine whether there the database is up (online) and allowing sql > > >access (insert, update, delete, select). You can tell whether the engine is online using 'tbstat -' 'tbstat -l' might give you additional information about whether you should try to do any work. There is NO test that you can perform that will tell you whether the system will be able to do ALL the work you want to do. I didn't want to waste time writing a relatively complex script, if there was a simple test available. Looks like I have too anyway. I will attempt this using a combination of the message logs (for logs full messages) and "tbstat -". Thanks for the info mate.
