It is, just, usable for compiling GCC, so do yourself a favour, and download DBD::Informix 1.00.PC1 and read the files in the Notes subdirectory about how to compile GCC on HP-UX. You need more than just the source for GCC -- in fact, you need 5 or more other pieces of software too. There is a complete discussion of how to do it in that distribution. Yes, I had to fight my way through it, and it was painful. I'm assuming you can't get hold of the HP ANSI C compiler...installing that is easier. > esql -c my.ec > (Bundled) cc: "/informix/v731uc3/incl/esql/locator.h", line 111: > error 1705: Function prototypes are an ANSI > feature. > [...snip...] -- Jonathan Leffler (jleffler@informix.com, jleffler@earthlink.net) Guardian of DBD::Informix v1.00.PC1 -- see http://www.perl.com/CPAN #include <disclaimer.h>
Thanks Jonathan... Actually this falls under the diminishing-returns-department, and looks to be more trouble than it's worth, based on your reply. This system will be going out of service in the near future. I was hoping to take advantage of the ESQLC that was installed, but apparently nobody before me had actually tried to use it. By the way, the Informix Server Administrator works well on AIX and HP/UX. ISA has a few interesting features, and I've actually come to liking the tag-along apache web server and perl, it paves the way to piggy-back other web stuff on to machines that were previously void of apache and perl, especially in cases where you don't have time to do a full-blown apache & perl installation or the circumstances wouldn't normally allow such things to be installed without a major amount of attention. In article <38DAFBAC.1622A7C8@bellsouth.net>, tschaefe@bellsouth.net says... >Actually this falls under the diminishing-returns-department, and looks to be >more trouble than it's worth, based on your reply. This system will be going >out of service in the near future. I was hoping to take advantage of the ESQLC >that was installed, but apparently nobody before me had actually tried to use it. I noticed that nobody else wanted to suggest the other alternative, which was to modify locator.h to put in an #ifdef __STDC__ #else #endif construct. Since the machine is going out of service shortly anyway, mucking around with the include files shouldn't pose that serious a threat. The pre-ansi definitions of the functions would be int (*loc_open)(); int (*loc_close)(); int (*loc_read)(); int (*loc_write)(); Or you could copy of locator.h to some other location, modify it, and persuade the compiler to look at the first via judicious -I clauses. (Yes, changing compilers is better, yes I know it would not be one of the top ten recommended things to do, yes I know Informix would frown on doing it, but it would work.) -- William Harris william@carsinfo.com
