I'd appreciate any horror/success stories. In my experience with using gcc, I don't think this is going to help you much. The reason being is that you must already have a C compiler to build gcc. At least that was the situation when I built it. Further gcc uses the libraries that your existing C compiler uses. I would assume that if Sun didn't bundle a C compiler they wouldn't give you its libraries either. As far as using gcc in place of one's normal C compiler, I've done it with ESQL/C, but it required procedural changes to make it work. Like having ESQL just pre-process and generate the C source, without actually calling the compiler. I don't see why you couldn't do something similar with 4GL, but you'd probably want to automate things with some sort of shell script or make file to make it livable. -- +--------------------+-------------------------------------------------------+ | Michael Faurot | Domain: mfaurot@bogart.UUCP | | ------- ------ | UUCP: ...uunet!media!ka3ovk!irscscm!bogart!mfaurot | +--------------------+-------------------------------------------------------+ | Fax: 202-927-3999 | The real problem is not whether machines think | | Tel: 202-927-2896 | but whether men do. --B.F.
