ASP/ADO/Text Fields

Is it possible to update TEXT fields with ADO on ASP pages? I have a "notes" field what users edit from an HTML form. I want them to be able to update what they have already entered. But when i open the record with a recordset object and change the notes column, then use the Update method...it ends up killing the web server, delivering "expected error" when ever i try to open another ASP page. It seems that the data was updated and the database server is just fine, but the web server is no good. Has anyone else been working with ADO with ASP with a connection to an Informix IDS server? Are there any valuable sources of information on this topic?
