ontape to a disk file

I am trying to use ontape to write to a disk file and when I change the
TAPESIZE parameter in the onconfig file to over 2 gig ontape dies when
the file reaches 2 gig. I am running AIX 4.2.1 and have created a 4 gig
file on the same filesystem that ontape is writing to so I know that the
OS supports fsize>2gig. The iiug web page says that it's possible but I
can't seem to be able to figure it out. Has anybody used ontape to a
file greater than 2 gig?

No, and I don't believe you can. Even where the OS supports 64-bit
addressed files IDS doesn't.
However, how about creating a 4GByte raw slice? ontape will write an
archive > 2GBytes to that no problems. And I have done this many times
(HP-UX).
