RE: Upgrade to IDS 7.31.UC6/FC6/TC6

SAP has determined that this IDS 7.31.[UFT]6 defect # 129463 is NOT restricted to the use of HDR. It may occur during the normal "logical" restore process. The 'Physical' Restore (e.g. importing a level 0 backup from a "whole system" backup) is not affected. The error does not depend on the backup tool you are using. It can occur with ontape, onarchive and onbar. Therefore all customers using the 7.31.[UTF]C6 versions can be impacted when running a database restore. Certain "rollback" statements in the log files can cause the error. According to SAP's OSS note, Informix has promised to deliver a corrected version for SAP platforms by mid July 2000. Until the corrected database versions are available, Informix will provide a correction procedure to circumvent this problem. Supported customers can use this procedure to carry out the restore successfully. No. The nature of the problem has to do with index btree treatment in recovery mode. ER does not 'recover' the index. HDR operates by always being in recovery mode. The problem was exposed by a performance issue encountered by some SAP customers that did a large update to an index and then bumped into a long transaction which rolled back. The patch to that problem B121385 was included in 7.31UC6. This patch exposed the regression, B129463. This appears to only be a problem in 7.31UC6.
