Put a backup/continuous/vset=logs ... REQUEST into the same script that
you use to restart Informix - i.e. don't use onmode -ky and oninit
directly, but via script - e.g. start_online and stop_online.

OnArchive can either have requests issued via the console or through the
virtual operator (which is a substitute for the console.) The latter
allows you to start continous backups via scripts. As far as I know, the
two are mutually exclusive - i.e. console OR scripts, but NOT both.

I guess this would be possible via clever use of shell scripts and
interrogating the cataloger.
We use several shell scripts to configure our OnArchive system, start
and stop log backups, change log backup tapes, etc. We need to use to
console for other stuff anyway, so we found onautovop to be the best
solution. Why can't you use it?
