Archives to disk with Online 7.1?

See my example script at: http://www.access.diges.net/~waiug/iugnews.html. Lester Knutson and the Washington Users Group keep that and many other interesting things besides. Be forewarned: this is not oficially sanctioned by Informix Tech Support. (We've been successfully relying on it for years! :) Some notes: You must create the file to hold the archive BEFORE you point to it using onconfig. And set the permissions/ownership right, too. The disk must, MUST be big enough for the archive. If it's not you will get bazillions of messages to the script's stdout asking for another tape, and that will fill up yet another disk. Worse things can happen, too. I've included a routine in the most recent version to verify that there's enough room. (Roughly.) There are several security concerns with using environmental variables as I did in this shell. You must be aware of them, and take appropriate steps. This shell should at least mail someone if something goes wrong, and even better would be a beeper-dialing routine. Informix is about to radically change its entire archiving strategy (so I'm told) to include the Tivoli product set. You may be wasting your time. This may apply to both tbtape and onarchive. (Informix???) Good luck (you'll need it!) ;) __________________________________________________________________ | Clem Akins Standard Disclaimers Apply | |Reynolds Metals Co, Alloys Plant "Climb High, Cave Deep!" | | Muscle Shoals, Alabama USA cwakins@leia.alloys.rmc.com | |________________________________________________________________|
