RE: Fragmentation by expression
Posted in 2000
You could calculate the week in your program and have an integer or short field be the week #. Then use this for your fragmentation strategy. Advantages: 1. Parallel fragment scans. 2. Fragment elimination if you are able to calculate the week number for the query. 3. Easy to purge a week of data.(detach, drop, readd fragment) 4. If fragments are loaded by week you are loading into an empty table, as opposed to having to find holes in the current table to insert your data into. Disadvantages: 1. To get fragment elimination you have to calculate the week number. 2. You are only writing to one dbspace if you are adding records by week. This is what I came up with off the top of my head. We have implemented a similar scheme and have been fairly happy with the results. Will >===== Original Message From benlag@my-deja.com ===== >I have an Informix DS 7.30 UC9-1 on a HP-UX 10 box.
