Extent and DBSpace

Hi, I have a database space issue due to the 2Gb limit on a DBSpace. How do you force the next extent of a table to be on another DBSpace. Thanks Andrus
It should be:
onmode -BC 1
I do not remember since which release it is available, I started using
it with Online 9.4
Regards,

The limitation is not for a dbspace, but for a chunk (assuming you're using a version before 9.4, which also means you're using a version which is out of support) A "simple" table can only use one dbspace. It can be spread over different chunks. If you want to spilt a table over two or more dbspaces you must fragment the table. Check the fragmentation documentation. It can be done round robin or by expression. Maybe you're confusing dbspace with chunks. A DBSPACE is a logical unit which can have several chunks (datafiles/raw). If you're running out of space in one dbspace which has 2GB you just need to create another chunk belonging to that dbspace. You don't need to create another dbspace. Regards. There IS NO 2GB limit on dbspaces. In versions earlier than 9.40 the CHUNKS were limited to 2GB, however, a dbspace can have as many chunks as you like (OK, those same versions were limited to 1024 chunks total to be fair). A single table can't have more than 16,216,777 pages in a single dbspace, but you can use the FRAGMENT BY clause in CREATE TABLE or ALTER FRAGMENT to spread the table's data across multiple dbspaces. So, even in those older, more limited, versions of Informix you could have a table with 16billion pages or about 32billion KB (twice that on Windows or AIX which have a 4K page size in those older versions). In 9.40 and later chunks are permitted to be larger than 2GB - up to 4TB each. In Informix 10.00 and later the number of chunks was increased from 1024 to 32767 and you can have multiple table fragments in the same dbspace, so practically speaking, you can have a single table all of the fragments of which are in a single massive dbspace and the maximum table size is about 128PB (give or take a GB or two for the catalog tables). You REALLY should post your version and platform information when you post, no matter how basic you think the question is. It often affects the answer. Art Art S.
