This is not a bug and Informix is not doing anything wrong, it is
simply caused by the fact that you are, in fact, using shared
libraries. The proper method to fix this without recompilation is to
add the line:
setenv LD_LIBRARY_PATH $INFORMIXDIR/lib:$INFORMIXDIR/lib/esql:/usr/lib
to your .cshrc (for c shell) use appropriate syntax for other shells.
The LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable is used by Unix to locate
shared libraries which reside in directories other than the default
shared library locations (whatever _they_ are). This env variable can
_not_ be set by the application (as with a putenv()) as it is used
_before_ program execution to load the image into memory (this can be
a problem with CGI apps).
