can someone tell me what the major applications of Informix are?

For small business financial systems look at the SE engine or IDS WGS, for more complex data or larger databases or higher service rates look at IDS. If you need to support a HUGE database or data warehouse or need to support extreme service levels look at IDS/XPO for cluster support. For abstract data type support including multi-media, mapping data, etc or to be able to encode business intelligence in the database server beyond the capabilities or performance supplied by Stored Procedures look at IDS/UDO. Informix simply has the finest database engines available. Art S. Kagel (Leader of the Informix Ra-Ra Team 1996-1998)
