Informix DSA 7.20.UC2 recovery problems

We are running 7.20.UC2 on SCO OpenServer 5.0.2 on 2 DEC Prioris HX MP5100/4 boxes. We have been having some interesting problems with data replication. Following a failure of the primary machine, we had expected that the other would become the new primary, and when the first machine was restored, it would resume in the role of secondary. Instead, what happens is that the recovered machine may decide to become a secondary and fail to synchronise with the primary, or sometimes it decides to become a primary, in which case we have two primaries. This seems to be a situation which Informix cannot recover from, and requires the use of ontape to try to correct. I would appreciate information from anyone who is suffering similar problems. We have a number of other problems too which we might be able to assist others with. I would also be interested to know if anyone is running in a similar configuration to ours. Informix have consistently failed to either resolve our problems nor can they provide me with any reference sites with similar configuration. Anyone help ?
