Most of the informix experts participate in the informix news group recommend not to use RAID-5. However, we are using it for most of our servers, yet we don't see the problem with RAID-5. For Sparc 20s, we are using fiber channel and its speed is 25MB in one direction, and the fiber channel supports bi-directional data transfer -- maybe this made the difference. For Sparc 2000E, we are using EMC's Symmetrix whose RAID-5 is a priprietary format named RAID-S. RAID-S is completely transparent to the system administrator. Whatever your regular performance you already have will not be degraded. We didn't *convert* from non-RAID-5 to RAID-5. We only have one system that do not have RAID-5, but we are going to convert it whenever our new disk arrary arrives. Maybe there is a performance difference, but it is not noticable to us. Chao
